Decatur, IL 62522

The Decatur Masonic Temple is one of Decatur’s most historical and beautiful buildings located at 224 W William St.  The first Masonic Lodge in Decatur was organized in 1841, which was on the corner of Franklin and Wood Streets. In 1925 talks began to build the current building. By this time there were three Masonic Lodges in Decatur. Construction began in 1927, the cornerstone laying was in 1928 and the official Dedication was in February of 1929. The Decatur Masonic temple is a beautiful 68,000 sq. ft. art deco building and has three lodge rooms, many Lounges, 2 dining rooms, commercial kitchen and beautiful auditorium. A.E. Staley was instrumental in the building of the Decatur Masonic Temple and was a strong supporter of the Masonic Lodges. The Staley Lounge is located off of the main entrance and is named after A.E. Staley and is the home to one of his portraits.
